Visit Alaska Parks

Denali

Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska is the very heart of the rugged Alaskan Interior. Denali National Park and Preserve is home to six million acres of wilderness. North America's highest mountain, Mt. McKinley. Glaciers and a sub-arctic ecosystem are found in Denali National Park and Preserve. An internationally designated bio-sphere preserve, Denali National Park and Preserve is home to abundant moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves.

Denali National Park & Preserve is open all year, but it is best to visit during warmer weather and when hospitality services are available (mid-May through mid-September). You may find fewer visitors here early and late in the season, so these may be good times for a visit.

The park road opens in late May and closes in mid-September (weather dependent). Park Headquarters stays open year-round.

Summers are cool, with average highs in the mid-60s and long periods of sunlight. In the winter, visitor center and hospitality services are closed. Temperatures fall to -40°F and below, so special cold-weather gear is needed.
